WHY ARE TEXTURES SO FUN OH MY WORD

Right, so, yeah. I love textures. This one I snagged from [link] Fantastic, is it not? Anyway, this was another, "What am I able to do with my resources" type picture, and so I again did a lot of stuff I'm not used to. I don't really understand lighting very well, so it's a bit wonk in this picture, moreso because I'm a moron who decided to do three light sources when I barely know how to figure out one, but I digress.

Really, though, this picture I drew to prove to myself that I haven't been artistically stagnating the last few years. So, I took the basic idea from this old, bad bad picture: [link] (That is, gangster charmeleon, own style) and just ran with it. I decided to change from biker to yakuza, since I love yakuza tattoos, though I regretted it when I realized that drawing tattoos is hard. Whatever the case may be, I really like how the tat turned out in the end, as well as the fire and the randomly thrown-together graffiti. I have a long way to go before I understand lightsources completely, but this is a start.

It looks like there is a light over top that shines on the face and tops of the shoulders.
The light on it's right hand is beside the body, meaning the shoulder would cast a shadow in the side of the head.
The light in it's left hand would cast a shadow on the back of the arm because the hand looks like it is downward below the arm.
The fire on the tail would give out a sort of reddish light, not white. The light in the hand would make the top part of the tail light up, but the bottom would be a little red and kind of dark.
The legs and body will cast shadows on the tail between the legs with a little light on to of the tail behind it's left leg then the leg shadow would hind the rest, because the light in the left hand would so some of that tail on top.

When I started to work on lighting I had to make up my mind what the positions of each thing was including the light. Then for a white I did think it mattered because I could use the lighting to create the positions.
To learn more about lighting I played with 3D, because you can control the light and learn from it. Now I can fix a lot of shadow mistakes made by 3D, but todays 3D don't make many mistakes. It does make you fee good when the floor is cut off and don't make all the shadow and you are able to fix it.
It gives you a more realistic look at lighting that you can use with your art, and it makes lighting simpler. The light is like a camera that cast shadows in areas it can see, and more highlights when it is closer to the light.
With 3D experience it can make lighting seem as simple as saying where there is no light there is darkness.

So if you like to improve lighting just play with 3D to help you get use to lighting effects.
